for the love of ray-j
for reasons, I spent an hour making the linked youtube playlist of several of ray-j’s “hit” singles.
imagine you live in a world where r. kelly, usher, mario, and perhaps chris brown have all been surgically removed by an alien race that hates slow jams and abs, but vh1 managed to hide ray-j in an underground bunker. go ahead, I’ll wait… okay, now, imagining that, you just may enjoy this.
I will say that “wait a minute” is an indisputable neptunes success, but I was hypnotized by pharrell williams in a boston record store in 2002, so I think that about everything they produced.
(also, don’t worry that I wasted any time on this, I did it while I was on a conference call, so it’s cool.)

New Radiohead Album of the Day: “Thank you for waiting”: And just like that, a brand spankin’ new Radiohead studio album is set to drop this weekend. The King of Limbs is available for pre-order right now, and will be available as a digital download this Saturday, 2/19.
Radioheadheads also have the option of pre-ordering a “Newspaper Album” version of the new LP, which will contain several bonuses, including “many large sheets of artwork,” and one lucky pre-orderer will land his or herself a signed 2-track 12” vinyl.
No additional information on tracks or singles provided as of yet. For those still doing the CD thing, the shiny plastic version will hit stores March 28th.

that cover art. I swear, sometimes I feel like everything radiohead does is designed to give me nightmares.

The way I give up my heart
my theory is that the love below is a musical odyssey through andre’s fear of commitment/ladies. and it is the most productive use of that stereotypical boy-fear ever.

session americana w/ jon powhida, “early in the morning”/”the message” from their 2010 year in review show at club passim. I was hoping they would have their incredible local natives cover from that show up, but this is a close second.
download it on their website/check out other stuff: http://www.sessionamericana.com/index.php?page=cds&display=2960#offset1
Imagine being on family vacation somewhere kind of corny and sucky but running into a girl or boy who is also on family vacation in the same corny, sucky place. You guys buy each other pins from the gift shop at the foot of a rollercoaster, maybe they’re little cowboy hats. You throw some skeeball. Then you go back to your hometowns and write each other crazy letters for the rest of the summer while listening to Marc Bolan. That’s what this song sounds like.
I’m going to see Smith Westerns tonight. (via heyimanna)

JOSH: Kings of Leon recently refused to lend their music to Glee for fear of losing their integrity. I actually appeared on Glee for purely artistic reasons. I made a statue. Out of cash.

his music is not my cuppa, but he does seem to be a delightful person.

First Listen: The Decemberists, ‘The King Is Dead’ : NPR
On The King Is Dead, Meloy prepares listeners for change in his opening line: “Here we come to a turning of the season.” It not only signals different lyrical themes, but also provides an introduction to a new musical lightness for The Decemberists. The new record opts to tame the band’s indulgences, and also reroutes its musical focus: Instead of pointing solely to the British folk that has long inspired him, Meloy digs deep into the American roots-music lexicon, even merging the two in the sea shanty/mining tune “Rox in the Box.”
Everyone keeps describing this album as having an R.E.M. feel.
I like the idea of digging into the american roots-music lexicon, not so much the idea of an REM feel. hmmm.

This is girlfriend music. As a single man, I have no urge to listen to this.
